U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement

The U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed by President Bush on May 6, 2003 and currently awaits Congressional approval.   The agreement replicates the most problematic provisions of NAFTA and fails to meet negotiating objectives on labor and the environment determined by Congress in the Trade Act of 2002 (Fast Track).

The negotiations for the FTA between the U.S. and Singapore were launched in November 2000 and concluded on January 15, 2003.  Congress will most likely vote on this agreement sometime this fall.
