The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights adopted the human right to water on November 26, 2002. Public Citizen has pushed for the adoption by the United Nations - the Economic, Social and Cultural Committee now has to introduce this decision to international legislation in order to enforce the right. Similar language needs to be introduced to the wider United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund - organizations that have all moved against introducing this right and instead focused on privatization and cost-recovery, thereby undermining the right to water.
